The First 24 Hours: Meeting My Baby
On February 11, 2026, I finally met my little one, Ddong-geul. Within the first 24 hours of life, my baby let out a tiny, adorable sneeze, which immediately captured my heart as a new dad.
I was initially worried about whether it was a sign of a cold or illness. However, after researching the developmental stages of newborns, I learned that this is a completely natural reflex for infants.
Why Do Newborns Sneeze So Often?
Medically speaking, sneezing in newborns is usually not a symptom of respiratory infection. Since their nasal passages are much smaller than adults, even minor particles like dust or milk droplets can easily irritate the delicate nasal lining.
The sneezing is actually a protective mechanism to clear their tiny airways and keep their nose clean. For a newborn like Ddong-geul, this small, frequent sneeze is just their way of adjusting to the new environment.
Tips for New Parents
Keeping the room humidity and temperature at optimal levels can significantly reduce nasal irritation for your baby. However, always consult a pediatrician if you notice persistent runny noses or high fever alongside the sneezing.
I am excited to document Ddong-geul’s growth journey and share helpful insights with parents around the world. Sending strength to all the fellow parents doing their best every single day!
